Building a biblical marriage

"Let all that you do be done in love."

- 1 Corinthians 16:14

We often equate a happy marriage with a perfect marriage. However, examples of marriage in the Bible show us that imperfect people can work together to build a strong foundation.

As individuals, we might struggle to understand how to make a marriage work. However, with God’s help, we can understand how to navigate marital stress and stand strong as a team.

The perfect marriage is found through the example of Christ’s love and dedication to the church (Ephesians 5). Becoming a virtuous wife or a resilient Christian husband is possible—but only when we learn to follow God’s heart for biblical marriage.

The perfect marriage

Building a good marriage is about crafting the best foundation—and that means living a life connected to God. Christian marriage prioritizes service and self-sacrifice, which are two aspects much less present in today’s culture. That means that a solid foundation will take time, and maybe a shift in our mindsets.

We are called to love God with our whole beings. When we put God at the center of our lives, from date night to doctor’s appointments, we will encounter Him in new ways.

Drawn together

Our spouse can be our best friend. But what happens when we don’t see eye-to-eye?

Bible verses about marriage point us toward God—who is the ultimate source of forgiveness, reconciliation, and love. Becoming godly women and men involves persevering through the hard moments to work together, even when the nights seem long.

We know that all things work together for good according to God’s will for our lives (Romans 8:28). Marriage is no exception. Building a better marriage requires that we recognize that we are better together and in unity with Christ.
